Description

The Canon FD 200mm F2.8 S.S.C. is a fast manual-focus telephoto lens introduced in March 1975 for Canon's FD-mount SLR system. With a 200mm focal length and F2.8 maximum aperture, it was designed as a relatively compact large-aperture telephoto for press, sports, nature, and other demanding applications.

Its optical construction uses five elements in five groups, with Canon's Super Spectra Coating (S.S.C.) applied to the lens surfaces. The 12° angle of view and F2.8 aperture provide useful reach and subject separation while maintaining a manageable size for a 200mm lens of its period.

The lens focuses manually down to 1.8m and provides a maximum magnification of 0.15×. It features an eight-blade diaphragm, a 72mm filter thread, and a built-in lens hood.

This is the original FD 200mm F2.8 S.S.C., introduced in 1975, and should not be confused with the later New FD 200mm F2.8 versions, which retained the basic optical formula initially but used a different mounting design.
