Description

The Nikon F5 is a professional 35mm autofocus SLR introduced in 1996 as Nikon's flagship film camera. It combines a robust professional body with a five-area autofocus system, high-speed motor drive, and Nikon's 1,005-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering system. The camera supports Program, Shutter-Priority, Aperture-Priority, and Manual exposure modes.

Its vertically traveling electronic focal-plane shutter provides speeds from 30 seconds to 1/8000 second, while the integrated motor drive can reach approximately 8 fps with the optional MN-30 Ni-MH battery unit or approximately 7.4 fps using AA batteries. The F5 also supports 3D Color Matrix, Center-Weighted, and Spot metering for different shooting situations.

The included Cosina 100-300mm F5.6-6.7 is a long-range telephoto zoom covering a useful 100–300mm range. Its 1.5m minimum focusing distance and approximately 1:3.9 maximum magnification provide additional flexibility for portraits, outdoor subjects, sports, and nature photography. The lens uses an eight-element, ten-group optical design and an eight-blade diaphragm.

Together, the F5 and 100-300mm zoom form a capable film setup for subjects that benefit from telephoto reach. The F5's fast autofocus, high-speed film advance, and advanced metering system complement the lens's broad focal-length range, making the combination particularly suited to outdoor, wildlife, sports, and portrait photography.
