Description

The Nikon FA is one of Nikon's most technologically advanced manual-focus 35mm SLR cameras of the 1980s. Introduced in 1983, it was the world's first camera to incorporate Nikon's Automatic Multi-Pattern (AMP) metering system, using five separate metering areas and a microcomputer to calculate exposure. Nikon also equipped the FA with four exposure modes—Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Manual—making it an unusually sophisticated camera for its time.

The camera features an electronically controlled vertical-travel metal focal-plane shutter with titanium curtains and a maximum speed of 1/4000 sec. Flash synchronization is available at 1/250 sec, while TTL flash metering adds further versatility when used with compatible Nikon Speedlights. The FA accepts Nikon AI and AI-S lenses, making it part of Nikon's extensive manual-focus F-mount system.
