Description

The Nikon Nikonos IV-A is a rugged 35mm amphibious camera introduced in 1980. It was Nikon's first Nikonos model to feature aperture-priority automatic exposure, using TTL center-weighted metering to control the electronically operated focal-plane shutter. The camera is designed to withstand water pressure at depths of up to 50 meters.

The camera uses a Nikonos bayonet mount and is supplied here with the W-Nikkor 35mm F2.5, the standard lens for the IV-A. The lens is designed for use both above and below water, with a 62° angle of view on land and 46°30' underwater. Its seven-element, five-group optical design focuses manually down to 0.8m.

The IV-A provides stepless shutter speeds from 1/30 to 1/1000 sec. in Auto mode, while 1/90 sec. and Bulb are mechanically controlled settings. The TTL meter accepts film speeds from ISO 25 to 1600, and the camera uses two SR44 silver-oxide batteries for its electronic exposure system.
