Description

The SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 is a compact standard prime lens introduced in the late 1970s for Pentax K-mount 35mm SLR cameras. Its 50mm focal length provides a natural perspective, making it a versatile choice for everyday photography, portraits, street scenes, and travel.

The bright f/1.7 maximum aperture allows more light into the camera in dim conditions and provides control over depth of field for subject separation. Stopping down can deliver improved sharpness and contrast, making the lens suitable for a range of photographic styles.

Its six-element, five-group optical design features Pentax's Super Multi-Coating (SMC), developed to help reduce reflections and maintain contrast. The manual-focus mechanism and dedicated aperture ring offer direct, tactile control, while the compact design keeps the lens lightweight and easy to carry.

Weighing approximately 185g, the SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 pairs naturally with classic Pentax K-mount film cameras and can also be adapted to many modern mirrorless systems. It is a practical vintage prime for photographers who appreciate compact construction and traditional manual operation.
