Description

The Minolta AF Reflex 500mm F8 is a distinctive mirror-type telephoto lens introduced in 1991 for Minolta's A-mount autofocus system. Unlike conventional refractive telephoto lenses, its reflex optical design uses mirrors to achieve a 500mm focal length in a remarkably compact and lightweight body.

The lens has a fixed f/8 aperture and focuses down to 4 meters, providing a maximum magnification of approximately 0.13×. Autofocus is driven by the camera body's in-built motor, while manual focusing is also available. The optical construction consists of seven elements in five groups.

A 28mm rear filter is used with the lens, and the original package included a dedicated 4× neutral-density filter. The lens has a screw-on round hood and a steel A-mount interface, with a compact 89mm diameter and approximately 665g weight.

The 500mm focal length makes it particularly suited to distant subjects such as wildlife, birds, sports, and details in the landscape.
