Description

The Sigma APO Macro 180mm F3.5 EX HSM is a full-frame telephoto macro lens designed for Canon EF-mount cameras. Its long 180mm focal length and 1:1 reproduction ratio make it particularly well suited to photographing insects, flowers, small animals, and other subjects where additional working distance is beneficial.

With a minimum focusing distance of 46cm, the lens can achieve life-size reproduction while keeping the photographer comfortably separated from the subject. The 180mm focal length also makes it useful beyond macro photography, offering strong subject isolation and compression for portraits and distant subjects.

The optical design consists of 13 elements in 10 groups, including two SLD elements for controlling chromatic aberration. Its floating internal focusing system maintains the lens's overall length during focusing, while the Canon EF version features Sigma's Hyper Sonic Motor for fast, quiet autofocus and full-time manual focus override.

The lens features Sigma's EX construction and DG optical design, with a nine-blade diaphragm and 72mm filter thread. Without optical stabilization, it is best suited to situations where shutter speed, tripod support, or sufficient ambient light can be controlled. It remains a capable choice for photographers looking for a dedicated long-reach macro lens for Canon EF systems.
