Description

The Canon IXY DIGITAL 500 is a compact digital camera introduced in 2004 and is notable as the first model in Canon's ultra-compact IXY DIGITAL series to use a 5-megapixel sensor. It combines a 1/1.8-inch CCD with a compact metal-bodied design, making it an interesting example of Canon's early-2000s premium compact cameras.

Its built-in 3x optical zoom covers a 36–108mm equivalent focal-length range, with a maximum aperture of f/2.8–4.9. The lens offers a useful combination of wide-angle and short-telephoto perspectives, while its macro mode can focus as close as 5 cm at the wide-angle end.

The 5-megapixel CCD produces the distinctive rendering associated with early Canon digital compacts, while the real-image optical zoom viewfinder provides an alternative to composing solely through the 1.5-inch LCD. The camera also offers TTL autofocus, multiple metering modes, program exposure, and both automatic and manual shooting modes.
