Description

The Contax N1 is a professional-level 35mm autofocus SLR developed for the Contax N system and introduced in 2000. It combines a robust body with sophisticated electronic exposure control, multiple metering patterns, high-speed shutter operation, and a motorized film drive. The N1's Contax N mount was designed specifically for the system's autofocus Zeiss lenses, providing a modern autofocus experience while retaining the image-making characteristics of Zeiss optics.

The included Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 70–300mm f/4–5.6 is a substantial telephoto zoom designed specifically for the Contax N1. Its 70–300mm range covers medium telephoto through long telephoto perspectives, making it useful for portraits, travel details, landscape compression, wildlife, and sports. The optical design uses 16 elements in 11 groups, including anomalous-dispersion glass, with Zeiss specifically emphasizing correction of optical aberrations and strong color and contrast reproduction.

The lens also provides a Tele-Macro capability, allowing close focusing down to approximately 1.0m at the telephoto end and reaching approximately 1:4.2 reproduction. This makes the lens more versatile than a conventional long telephoto zoom, particularly for photographing flowers, details, and smaller subjects.
