Description

The Leica Summicron-R 50mm F2 ROM is the second-generation Summicron-R 50mm, updated with Leica's ROM electronic contacts for communication with compatible Leica R8 and R9 cameras. It retains the compact 50mm design and 6-element, 4-group optical formula of the second-generation lens.

With a maximum aperture of F2, the lens offers a practical combination of light-gathering ability, compact size, and control over depth of field. The 50mm focal length provides a natural perspective well suited to everyday photography, portraits, documentary work, and general-purpose shooting.

The lens focuses manually down to 0.5m and features a built-in telescopic hood and E55 filter thread. Its optical construction uses six elements in four groups, with a six-blade fully automatic diaphragm.

The ROM version, catalog number 11345, represents the later version of the Summicron-R 50mm F2 design and was produced from the 1990s onward. It is particularly suited to photographers using later Leica R bodies who want the additional electronic communication provided by the ROM interface.
