Description

The Leitz Canada Elmarit-R 135mm F2.8 is the second-generation 135mm Elmarit-R, produced from the mid-1970s through the 1990s. This 3-Cam version uses the classic 5-element, 4-group optical design and is compatible with Leica R-series cameras as well as the Leicaflex SL and SL2.

Its 135mm focal length provides a narrow field of view well suited to portraits, details, and distant subjects. The F2.8 maximum aperture offers useful subject separation while retaining a relatively straightforward and compact telephoto design.

The lens features a built-in sliding hood and an E55 filter thread. Its minimum focusing distance is 1.5m, making it primarily suited to conventional telephoto and portrait photography rather than close-up work.

The 3-Cam mount is an important version detail, allowing the lens to couple with the full Leica R system. Canadian-made examples were produced at Leitz's Midland facility, and the 3-Cam version is commonly identified by its later barrel design with integrated hood.
