Description

The Canon Model 7 is one of the most advanced cameras of Canon's classic Leica screw-mount rangefinder era. Introduced in 1961, it combined a coupled rangefinder with a built-in selenium exposure meter, selectable parallax-corrected framelines, and a durable metal focal-plane shutter. The Canon 7 was produced in significant numbers and represents an important stage in Canon's development before the company moved toward the 7s and ultimately away from the traditional rangefinder system.

The camera uses a fully mechanical shutter with speeds from 1 second to 1/1000 second, together with B, T, and X settings. Its 0.8× viewfinder provides selectable frames for 35mm, 50mm, 85/100mm, and 135mm lenses with automatic parallax correction. The built-in selenium meter is unusual for a Canon rangefinder of this period and provides a useful historical feature, although the condition and accuracy of individual meters can vary with age.
