Description

The Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3 APO EX DG HSM is a super-telephoto zoom lens covering an exceptionally broad 10× focal-length range. Designed for full-frame and APS-C DSLR cameras, the 50–500mm range allows photographers to move from standard-length compositions to extreme telephoto subjects without changing lenses.

The optical design consists of 20 elements in 16 groups and incorporates four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements to help control chromatic aberration across the extensive zoom range. The lens is particularly suited to wildlife, sports, aviation, outdoor events, and distant subjects where long focal lengths are required.

Sigma's HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) provides quiet, high-speed autofocus operation, while the rear-focusing design keeps the front element from rotating. A zoom-lock mechanism helps prevent the lens from extending under its own weight during transport, and the included tripod collar provides additional support for extended telephoto shooting.

The lens does not feature optical image stabilization, making a stable shooting position or tripod useful when working at the longer end of the range. With its substantial 500mm reach, 86mm filter thread, and professional EX-series construction, the 50-500mm is a distinctive option for photographers seeking maximum focal-length versatility from a single lens.
